In every piece you will find painstaking craftsmanship and longtime tradition.
Kyo-Yuzen uses a broad pallet of colors unlike anything in the world, and is known for its exquisite designs of animals, flowers and landscapes rendered in curved lines.
Hand painted Kyo Yuzen was first made by Kyoto’s very popular fan painter Miyazaki Yuzensai in the 17th century. The technique demands great dexterity in tracing designs by hand before starch is applied to fabric like a stencil to prevent colors from spreading onto other areas of the fabric. In general, Kyo Yuzen is produced collaboratively by more than twenty specialty artisans of each completing part of the process..
